Kiruna

The city of Kiruna is located in Sweden 145 km north of the arctic circle. For more than 120 years the Kirunavaaraa Iron Ore mine has been the citys number one source of income and has employed most of the population. Over the years the mine has grown considerably and eventually undermined the city itself, forcing a major redevelopment where the city centre and half the population are moving 3 km east. Some key buildings, like the Kiruna church will be taken apart and then reconstructed in the new town. Shot for Scandinavian Traveler Magazine.
